Following the launch of Ely’s Escape Room's, Oliver Cromwell’s House is pleased to announce the reopening of 'The Curious Case of Curator Chadwick' from 22nd May 2021.
Here's a snippet about the plot! It's 1910 and the Vicar of St. Mary's Church has rented the Tithe Room out of the Vicarage to his dear friend, Curator Cornelius Chadwick. After a few weeks, he mysteriously disappears! Come and search for clues, solve the puzzles and discover the whereabouts of the enigmatic Curator.

For the first time ever, we have a Junior Escape Room Challenge - aimed at 10-13 yr olds!
Ideal for birthday's, get togethers, or just a fun day out. Up to 8 players are allowed - parent must remain on premises. The puzzle has been suitably adapted for the younger audience and promises to be a whole lot of fun! The sessions are running four times a day, every Thursday during school summer holidays. What better way of discovering the history of this magnificent city than being guided around its splendid array of medieval paths and monastic buildings. Discover the origins of the Cathedral and the importance of trade in this former Isle of Eels.

The Celestial Medlar - a sinister time-travelling magician!
Based on the Escape Room principle, this activity is designed to accommodate between 20 and 40 people and provides a unique journey through history in a thrilling adventure. Your group will be divided into four teams and then they will be pitched against one another with the task of completing a series of puzzles in the quickest time. Each team will have to visit four rooms within Oliver Cromwell’s House and work out the puzzles that when put together, will give you your ultimate answer. Your challenge is to complete the assignment before any of the other teams.
Complete with an awards ceremony at the end, this fun activity takes approximately 90 minutes and is priced at £25 per person. The event can be undertaken after 5.30 pm on a day of your choice, subject to availability.

Join Nora Gardner, aka The Hungry Roundhead, our local guide and food historian to learn about the flavours and ingredients of 17th Century cooking in England. Visit Mrs Cromwell's original kitchen and listen to Nora as she explains just how these wonderful old recipes were made, and how we can compare them to a modern-day dish! Follow Nora to our wonderful, oak-panelled Tithe Office where Cromwell once sat, and hear further tales of cooking in the 17th Century. Just before the end of your talk, grab a 'Cromwell Feast' of goodies, a complimentary recipe card and enjoy!
A time to celebrate the harvest and focus on preserving the dishes of the season. Come and join Nora as she revives some tasty dishes from the 17th-century harvest suppers.

Come along to Oliver Cromwell’s House for some family fun this summer.
Start with a film in the Parlour before talking with a 17th-century kitchen maid in the house kitchen where you can have a go at making a Tussie-Mussie to take away. Your journey will continue up the stairs to Mrs Cromwell’s Room where you can hear about 17th-century fashion, try some of the games available and maybe even write some Latin at the school desk! A soldier will answer your questions in the Civil War Room before you head back downstairs to make your own 17th-century toy.
